Sensei Norm Robitza, 5th Dan, Mount A Alumnus, is the Instructor of Mt. A Club. He reopened the defunct MTA JKA in January 2002 when he was a brown belt. Later that year he would be promoted to Shodan by Master Teruyuki Okazaki.
Sensei has assisted with the successful 2004 JKA/WF of Canadian National Karate Championships by creating the program for the event.
In 2007, Norm made an unsuccessful attempt at his Nidan under Master Yutaka Yaguchi. Later that year he was promoted to Nidan by Master Frank Woon-A-Tai.
In June of 2010, He was promoted to Sandan by Sensei Hiroyoshi Okazaki in Moncton, NB.
In February 2011, Sensei Robitza split from the ISKF along with most of the dojos in NB to follow Master Woon-A-Tai in the International Karate Daigaku. Sensei Robitza is the former web designer for the ISKF Canada and he has developed the International IKD website. Sensei has enrolled in the IKD Kenshusei Program. This program is designed to create qualified International Instructors.
In 2013, Sensei Robitza competed in the Maritime IKD Championship winning 1st in Adult Individual Black Belt Kata and Kumite. In May, the Maritime IKD hosted the IKD Canada Cup. Sensei Robitza designed the tournament logo and the program for the event. The night before the National tournament, Sensei was promoted to 4th Dan and received his Level C National Referee’s License. Sensei Robitza competed on the last day of the tournament and won a Bronze Medal in Team Kumite. To cap off the year, he received his Official Dojo Instructor’s course from Master Frank Woon-A-Tai.
In 2016, Sensei Norm traveled to the IKD World Camp in Ontario. He also attened the IKD Canada Cup in Quebec to act as an official. During the weekend, he received his “B” Level International Judge’s license. On the final day of competition he competed in Team Kumite and won a bronze medal. To close out the year, Sensei Norm completed the Level D technical portion of the IKD Instructor’s program. He along with Sensei Jolene presented a scrapbook to Shihan David and Sensei Janice on the milestone of 35 years of Karate in Amherst.
In 2017, Sensei Norm completed the Level D Academic portion of the IKD Instructor’s program and earned his D Level Instructor License. He was promoted to Godan at IKD World Camp by Shuseki Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai.
In 2018, Sensei Robitza competed in the Maritime IKD Championship earning a bronze in kata and kumite. He once against attend the IKD World Camp where he completed the C Level technical portion of the IKD Instructor’s program. In August, he travelled to Barbados to take part in the IKD World Cup as a coach, competitor and judge.
Norm’s wife and daughters have all trained in the style. His oldest daughter, Katilyn received her shodan in 2003. His wife, Jolene who also assists with the club, received her Nidan in 2014. Their youngest daughter, Rachel has done some basic training.
Sensei Robitza is a Private Security Officer who supplies security services for concerts and special events. He is one of the first graduates of Responder Training’s Officer Safety Tactical Defense Program. His job has seen him provide security for some of the most famous performers in the World including U2, Metallica, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Kiss, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, Elton John, NickelBack, Bruce Springsteen and many many more.
