In 2 weeks, the IKD will hold the 6th IKD World Honbu Camp. The organisation has grown with leaps and bounds over the past few years and recently expanded into Australia.

Each year at Camp there has been a theme, last year was kobudo, weapons. This year will have two themes. The Science of Karate with a special lecture on the Embusen and Physics of Karate. These two classes will be very interesting and will help each student with their training and instructors with their teaching.

The second theme is the Olympics. Karate will be included in the Olympics in 2020 when the sporting event is held in Japan. This should be a huge boost for karate and the IKD is taking steps to cash in. Fuku Shuseki Shihan Dr. W. Dexter Shim, 8th Dan will be leading classes on Olympic Karate.

Like last year, I hope to write a report on camp. Last year, I said I would post a daily review but was unable to due to internet restrictions. This will be the case again this year. I will work on the report daily at camp and will post it as soon as I get home.

This year will be significant for me again. Last year was my first year at camp. This year will be significant because I will be testing for my 5th degree Black Belt. I started preparing for this a long time ago and hope that my preparations will be enough to earn my rank.

Stay tuned for more on IKD World Honbu Camp and remember, if you are interested, there is still time to register. visit ikdworldcamp.com.

It is my instructor’s fault!

This happens often, a student or parent complains that the outcome of their testing was not what they expected. The student isn’t successful or gets a low level pass so they blame the results on the examiner or the instructor. Then they either give up, change to a different dojo or different style. The problem […]

Achievements

Achieving a goal is something that is to be celebrated but don’t fixate on it. As a white belt the main goal is to become a black belt. This is true but each beginner should start off with basic goals, learn how to tie your belt, memorise the first kata and learn all of the […]
